REPRESENTATION:
Herbert Hoover, the Republican presidential candidate in the 1928 election, is seen with Charles Curtis, his running mate.
REALITY:
The campaign required Curtis and Hoover to maintain an image of friendship. In reality, the two men were at such odds that they refused to pose together for a photograph.
The administration was forced to merge two separate images and paint in a hand to give the illusion that the running mates were in harmony. The photo was revealed as a fake following the campaign.
