The Power of Our Work

The Youth Photo League (YPL)
We offer a free after-school program for middle and high school students, with an innovative curriculum in photography, film, and journalism. For our students, photography becomes a tool and a metaphor, allowing students to capture their world, from their own perspective, and share it with a larger audience.
BDC Focus

Exhibitions + Public Programs
The BDC presents at least four major photography exhibitions annually, with dozens of public programs–film screenings, panel discussions and workshops. We’ve presented over 65 exhibitions, attracting more than 60,000 visitors, 70% of whom are Bronx residents.
Upcoming exhibitions

The Latin American Foto Festival (LAFF)
Now in its 8th year, LAFF is the first photography festival in NYC history devoted to the cultures of the Central and Latin American homelands of NYC’s Latin community. The Festival is launched from the BDC and extends to dozens of participating venues throughout the South Bronx and other NYC neighborhoods.

BDC Films
We support young adult documentary filmmakers from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds, giving them the tools and opportunities to tell their stories to the world. Each year, the program offers a nine-month fellowship, providing a stipend, artistic and technical training, mentorship, and a road map to professional opportunities for all participants.

Spanish Language Photo Workshops
Our classes for South Bronx adults that enhance individual and collective storytelling for our community. The workshops are a highly effective program serving our community, where nearly 50% of residents’ primary language is Spanish.
Upcoming Workshops

Bronx Senior Photo League
We’ve partnered with several Bronx senior centers, offering older adults photography courses where they’ve created incredible work, establishing strong social connections and community pride.
