REALITY:
These photographs taken by Alexander Gardner have been exposed as staged images–the dead soldier’s body was moved and the scene rearranged for each photograph. 

Gardner transported the body to a second location and twisted the corpse’s head to face the camera. The gun is also a prop gun, arranged in the photograph.
