This year’s Youth Photo League (YPL) exhibition features a range of photojournalism and documentary projects rooted in the Bronx. The BDC’s Youth Photo League is made of students aged 12-18 years old. Photos on exhibit include work published in FOCUS, the program’s newspaper. The BDC’s HS1 class investigated the rise of teen vaping in local schools, focusing on how marketing, flavored products, and easy access have contributed to growing addiction. Many other BDC students, some as young as 12-years-old, explored personal and community stories—photographing autism in their families, housing insecurity, and the role of small businesses in daily life.

Students from Immaculate Conception School—closing this year after 175 years—produced a photo and interview series documenting their final months in the building. The BDC’s high school film-making class directed, shot and produced Día, a short documentary following three street vendors at the Hub as they navigate informal labor and shifting city enforcement.

Each piece is grounded in the students’ lives and communities—offering an inside look at the South Bronx through their eyes.
