Emerging Visions: Photo Education Around the World brings together organizations from around the world to explore the transformative power of photography education.
Featuring work from organizations including Documenting Detroit (Michigan), Fotokids (Guatemala), ICP at The Point (New York), Las Fotos Project (California), Magnum Foundation (New York), NYC Salt (New York), Pathshala South Asian Media Institute (Bangladesh), Photoville (New York), The VII Foundation (France, Bosnia & Herzegovina), Vermont Center for Photography (Vermont), and the Bronx Documentary Center’s Youth Photo League.
The exhibition highlights both student photographs and the work that happens behind the camera – from teaching methods and mentorship, to the practical tools used to build each groundbreaking program.
This collaborative exhibition demonstrates how access to photography education can foster creativity, strengthen communities, amplify underrepresented voices, and create opportunities for the next generation of visual storytellers.
This exhibit is presented as part of the Bronx Documentary Center’s 15th Anniversary celebration, alongside Built in the Bronx: 15 Years of the Bronx Documentary Center on view in the 614 Gallery.
Through the Generations, 2023 • Age 17
For this photograph, I wanted to highlight the relationship between my
grandmother, mother, and myself. They’ve helped me become the
person I am today and I decided to collage together these close-up shots
of our eyes. They are two of the biggest influences in my life that I look
up to the most. Throughout this project, I was able to learn a lot about
my family’s stories and struggles and by the end of my project, I felt

I’ve grown up in Boyle Heights/East Los Angeles, an area that holds much
color, laughter, culture, music, and most importantly, hard-working
communities. These diverse communities have inspired me to develop
an observant eye that is constantly in search of a new subject that
carries a unique story. Through lifestyle photography I honor these
stories, emphasizing the cultural characteristics of each subject, as it is a
