Join Fujifilm X-Photographer Michael A. McCoy in conversation with Idris Talib Solomon as they discuss McCoy’s work from his Veterans Day Project at the BDC. McCoy will present photos he made commemorating the 75th anniversary of EO 9981, an executive order signed in 1948 by President Truman banning segregation in the Armed Forces. His project aims to shed light on the often overlooked and untold stories of veterans, recognizing their unique experiences and contributions. 

Michael McCoy (@michaelamccoyphotography) is a distinguished and highly acclaimed Washington, D.C.-based Fujifilm-X photographer, recognized for his exceptional talent and contributions in the field of photojournalism and portrait photography. With a compelling blend of skills and experiences, he has made a significant mark on the world of photography. As a Pulitzer Prize-nominated photojournalist and portrait photographer, Michael has skillfully captured some of the most pivotal moments in recent history. His portfolio boasts an impressive range of subjects, from capturing the essence of prominent individuals during historic events to revealing the intimate and heartfelt moments shared by everyday people. His work is characterized by its engaging, affectionate, insightful, and alluring qualities, reflecting his keen eye for storytelling through imagery.

Idris Talib Solomon (@idrissolomon) is a visual artist with over 10 years of experience in the marketing, advertising, and entertainment industry. In parallel, he uses photography to focus on stories that are overlooked within the African-American community. He photographs dancers and gymnasts in Harlem, funeral homes in East New York, muralists in Bushwick, Black cowboys in Houston, athletes and eco challenges in Fiji, racing drones in France, and unit stills for television and movies. He also photographs his wife and son. Solomon is the creative director and host of the Black Shutter Podcast, which gives Black photographers a platform to tell their own stories.
