Meet the BDC's New Lab Coordinator

Introducing Mel Patten.

The BDC would like to introduce Mel Patten as the BDC's new lab coordinator. Mel joined our team this past February, but in light of recent events, we have had to postpone her introduction.

Since joining our team, Mel has provided greatly needed tech support to the BDC and will be working in our darkroom labs in-person in the future! Learn more about BDC Labs here.

Mel Patten is a Cuban-American artist and photographer originally from Miami, Florida. She studied analog photography while still in high school and went on to study fine arts at Miami Dade College. Her work in Miami, nostalgia-driven, was primarily focused on the “lost” Cuban culture that transformed the city’s landscape in the 1960s and 70s. Her passion lies in honoring that culture through glimpses or vignettes of Miami’s inhabitants, depicting life in the new world while still respecting the old. In addition to her work with the BDC, she is also a darkroom technician at the International Center of Photography.
