This in-depth, hands-on masterclass will cover all the practical aspects of book making and walk you through the key steps you'll need to transform a set of single images Into a cohesive book. The workshops will cover the editing process; concept development; design issues like the choice of size, paper, grid and typography; and the printing process.

The workshop is designed for photographers who are interested in seeing a book project through from concept to the final book creation. At the end of the workshop, every student will have finished the dummy for their projected publication.

Teun van der Heijden and Sandra van der Doelen have taught workshops all over the world. Van der Heijden, in talking about their work, has said, “... the photo book represents contemplation, solidity, something we can literally hold on to…The contemporary photo book can be seen as a visual novel.”

This workshop is limited to 12 students.

Through lectures, practical classes and individual project work, you’ll learn about the expressing your photographic vision.

Sessions 1-2: students share ideas and focus on the concepts for their books.

Sessions 3-5: each student works on their concept and creates a dummy of their book project.

The workshop is aimed at photographers with a substantial project or body of work who are planning a publication. In addition to images, participants are encouraged to bring other materials that could potentially be incorporated into their publication, such as texts, graphic elements, etc.
